Isabelle Olivier - Harpist, composer, teacher, president at Culture for All, and CEO at Rewound Echoes
As a jazz harpist, composer, president and CEO, I have charted an unconventional path throughout my career, forging interdisciplinary connections within the arts and exploring various musical styles. Artistic and human exploration through the harp has allowed me to broaden my musical horizons across disciplines and territories. Working at the intersection of cultures in various art forms can reveal a boundless human and artistic space. Music is an art that connects people, regardless of their ideals, ages, gender identities, or cultural backgrounds. It serves as an extraordinary force for providing creative accessibility to all. With the privilege of recording 12 albums featuring my compositions, I have traveled to 25 countries to present collaborative and interactive projects.
In 2024, I release a new album ‘Impressions’ with a string quartet, piano, accordion, drums, and electronics. I celebrated my 30 years on stage with the ‘Smile’. During the lockdown, I composed a film concert focusing on pioneering women in cinema.
Today, I aim to deepen my research by prioritizing women from minority backgrounds. Given the American political context, presenting the diverse cultural visions of these filmmakers is essential for exploring contemporary issues.
Having collaborated with exceptional artistic personalities such as Oscar winner filmmaker Agnes Varda, outstanding drummer Peter Erskine, and co-leader for OASIS - Rez Abbasi granted by the Guggenheim Foundation , Isabelle Olivier is recognizable from the first notes of her rare and fascinating instrument: the harp. Exploring both acoustic and electronic realms, she composes jazz open to all influences. As the first female composer laureate of the Villa Le Nôtre in Versailles, she was commissioned by the Art Institute of Chicago in 2017 to compose and perform an artistic response to "Gauguin, the Alchemist." Supported by the FACE Foundation for her "OASIS" project with Rez Abbasi, she is passionate about intercultural and intergenerational intersections.

Ayant collecté des comptines du monde entier, Isabelle Olivier invite les tout·e·s petit·e·s à un grand voyage musical, comme une ronde autour du monde. De l’aube au crépuscule, une journée s’écoule aux quatre coins du monde. Aux quatre coins ? Mais la terre est ronde ! Du Pérou au Congo en passant par le Japon, l’Islande, l’Algérie et tant d’autres pays, la musique est un trésor universel qui témoigne de notre humanité. Après avoir revisité avec Dans mon jardin les chansons traditionnelles fran- çaises sur le thème de la nature, Isabelle Olivier poursuit son exploration du réper- toire musical enfantin à la découverte Du Monde entier. Un joyeux récital de harpe au croisement des styles musicaux, qui fait la part belle à l’improvisation et ré- vèle la richesse mélodique, harmonique et rythmique de cet instrument merveilleux.

La harpiste de jazz Isabelle Olivier poursuit son voyage au croisement des cultures et des musiques. OASIS (Olivier Abbasi Sound In Sound) est né de sa rencontre avec le grand guitariste de jazz américain d’origine pakistanaise Rez Abbasi.
Leur album «OASIS» sorti en 2019 fut plébiscité tant par la presse internationale, comme le public, venu applaudir le projet de Paris à New York, ou encore au DC Jazz Festival de Washington et au Field Museum de Chicago, avec un public composé de milliers de personnes. Après 14 concerts de la première création, ils poursuivent avec enthousiasme leurs parcours des deux côtés de l’Atlantique.

Don’t worry be harpe ! est un projet inédit : composer et jouer un Jazz Oper(h)arpe. En écoutant Bobby Mc Ferrin et sa voix extraordinaire, Isabelle Olivier a eu envie de créer un opéra pour des voix à la croisée du Jazz, de la musique classique et des musiques traditionnelles. Il lui a permis d' utiliser le titre "Don't worry, be haRpy!".

La première version est en trio avec contrebasse et batterie et la seconde avec 4 chanteurs en plus et au final avec un choeur et le Big Sea band.
